SilverCart 1.2 - Example Data
You just installed a new software and you really want to know how it feels and what features it has got. Computer games often provide tutorial levels with audio comments and fancy item highlighting.
SilverCart has example data. These are example products and other objects, eg widgets. They let the front end shine and demonstrate the enormous freedom of layout. It would take you a lot of time if you would create some products and configure the system. The example data button takes that burdon from your sholders with one mouse klick only. You can even understand better the correlation betweetn front- and backend with the aid of this example data.
There is also an example configuration that lets the checkout work. Before version 1.2 this example data and example configuration had to be activated via static methods, a programmer had to lay hands on it. Now there are two buttons in the backend which anyone who can deal with a mouse or a trackpad can press. The test products are all available modules for SilverCart and they are even multilingual.
We have a whole bunch of pretty widgets and they are configured automatically upon pressing the „example data“ button. The chackout needs carriers, payment methods, countries, zones, and a lot of relation configured. Nobody can take this work away from you if you want to run a online store but the example configuration lets you play with the checkout and get a feel for the system.
Please tell us your opinion about the example data feature. Does it have the kind of value for you that we expected?
