Vouchers
16 June 2011 at 7:31amI checked out Silvercart and it looks really great so far. Are you planning to do something like vouchers?
Also, have you any plans on when the documentation will be more complete? Wasn't on the roadmap and the admin panel has many options.
Regards
Jethro

16 June 2011 at 10:10amHi Jethro,
in fact, we already have a module that adds vouchers to silvercart (for rebates, fixed amounts, present vouchers and product vouchers). But it is not published yet (but tested and used in a productive shop system ;-)).
We are working on the SilverCart documentation and we are putting content into it continuously and try to get it more complete as fast as we can.

Sebastian

today I finished a new part of the developer documentation: Form handling. What are you missing most in our docu?
Best regards,
Roland
Re: Vouchers
17 June 2011 at 9:43amSounds good. Do you have a plan when you will publish the voucher module?
The admin area could be a bit better documented, for example where to fill in translations for products and such things. But I see that you are working on it, I will figure it out.

17 June 2011 at 5:32pmhello jethro,
we do not have translations for articles yet. the publishing of the vouchers module must be discusssed and planed first. this might take a week or two.

Nice work on the SilverCart, though i have not downloaded it yet but it's good to have options. I have few question though:
Can you please explain to me why you created another cart/ecommerce system for SilverStripe when there was one before. Is SilverCart better than the SilverStripe ecommerce module existing before?
Why should one use SilverCart instead of the other ecommerce module for SilverStripe?
What is the release stage of the Vouchers module?
The site i want to develop will not be accepting creditcard for payment rather the plan is to have generated vouchers pin that can be used on the site as a means of payment. Can the Voucher module be used as a form of payment?
Finally, can SilverCart use an Internal wallet/Purse systems as means of payment whereby user would have Pre-funded their account on my site so that on checkout, they can use their internal wallet as a mean of payment whereby SilverCart will validate if they have enough money in thier wallet to cover the purchase just like it will with other means of payment?

15 July 2011 at 12:01pmHi Chrisazuka,
the existing ecommerce module was unmaintained at the time we came up with our decision. We concluded that the lack of documentation and the core structure (product extends sitetree, not dataobject) would haunt us in the future. Additionally, we have strong ideas on how our shopping cart should be architected, based on the ecommerce experience we gathered with other shopping carts in the past 5 five years.
The voucher module is feature complete and productive, but it still lacks the 'polishing' to release it as a module. As you may have seen, we have quite a high standard when it comes to code and documentation.
Currently we are more focused on things that improve SilverCart in general to help it spread out. The voucher module is rather specific and not necessary for everyone.
The voucher module could fulfill your requirements. Say, someone has a voucher for 100 bucks and spents 10, he automatically receives a new voucher for 90 bucks.
Not quite what you asked for, but a similar mechanism.
Sascha has already implemented a credit based payment system for one of our clients. We have not thought about implementing this as an internal wallet payment yet. But I like the idea, thanks for pointing out the obvious :-)
We will keep this in mind and see where it fits to our roadmap.
Cheers
Ramon

15 July 2011 at 1:13pmHi Ramon,
Thanks for the swift reply. I guess i will have to use the SilverCart but the 2 important things for me are the Voucher and the Credit based payment System. Without it non of the cart are usable for me because that is what my site is about.
Based on your feedback, the Voucher module feature complete and productive. what do you mean by polishing? You also said the credit based payment system has been implemented too for a client anyway.
So How can i work with you to have the credit based payment and voucher module implemented for me in SilverCart for me? it very important.
I need both mudules asap.
