Streamed Media
27 November 2011 at 8:27amHi, I am just wondering what is the best way to sell streamed content via Silvercart. So the "article" is a media file which will be streamed, not downloaded, to view the content after the customer has paid via credit card or bank transfer.
Any idea ?
Thanks a lot !

this is a very interesting topic. We had a xxx-project some years ago that was streaming live content (1:1 and 1:n broadcast) and also had movies.
This can get quite tricky, depending on the requirements
- is it live content, movies or both
- how often or how long is the customer allowed to see the movie
- is the live-stream charged by time? (e.g. with prepaid credit and being subtracted in realtime)
- is it credit based or "real money"? - sometimes credit based is a very good option
Basically SilverCart would provide the digital product which the customers buy. But instead of shipping a product they would - most likely in their customer area - have permanent or temporarily links to view the purchased content. A rights management would have to be implemented to assure that the restrictions of content, viewing amount and timeframe are not violated.
For live streaming, I recommend the Wowza Media Server http://www.wowza.com/. Red5 might also be worth a look, but I never used that.
Do you have more specific requirements for this project?
If you need professional support and experienced developers for this project, we would love help you out. We can do the coding, setup and host the media server (we have our own rackspace in a local datacenter and run all our projects on Hewlett-Packard servers).
Cheers

27 November 2011 at 10:39amHi Ramon,
thanks for the answer. It is not live streaming. The articles are more or less recorded presentations which are synchronised with the corresponding PPT or PDF. These educational films are then brought online so people can watch the content. It is a pay per view method so the user has to pay every time he wants to see the film.
I am just preparing a demo and I want to use Silvercart for this. If it comes to a live project I will definitely come back to you and your team.
In this context I have another question. Can one article / movie be in more than one group ?
Thanks,
Gerhard

good luck with the demo :)
Each product belongs to 1 product group (this is the home group) and can additionally be linked to many other product groups (mirrored product groups). So yes, they can be in more than one group.
