Silvercart multilingual

30 December 2011 at 5:21pm

I'm trying to put my site in two languages Portuguese by default, and English as a second language.
I follow your toturial how to implement another language and everything went well, except the variables associated with the products.
I created translations in the categories of products and works fine, when I get the translations of products do not work.
For example when I change the language, add to cart is not translated, why?
How can I make a complete translation of the products?

Best regards
Ivo

Hi Ivo,

are you sure that your language file is being pulled properly?

It is possible that there are still some hardcoded texts that we have not made translateable yet, but as far as I remember the "add to cart"-button should work.

The products are translateable dataobjects. This means that you have to create a new product with the locale you like to have and attach it to the desired product group in the desired language. This means, that basically there is one product for each language you will have in your shop and each product will only be shown for the proper locale. As a result, you can maintain the amount in stock, prices and pictures for each language version of your product individually.

This is the way translateable dataobjects work in SilverStripe. We are planning to change this with the next major release of SilverCart.

Truly multilingual shops are not very common among our clients, so we have not had a high priority on this topic.

I hope this answers your questions.

Cheers
Ramon

Hello Termita,
as a result of your request and the future needs of one of our clients I am currently working on the translation of products. As Sebastian and Sascha are bullying me constantly to finish this feature I am putting all me resources at it. It should be done by the end of this week.

Glad you are working on this functionality, customers are increasingly requesting not to restrict the site to a single language. I will be attentive. Thanks for the answers.

Best regards
Ivo

Hello Termita,

our work makes progress. The products are multilingual now and the user interface is easy to work with. There is still a lot of work left. Payment methods, carriers, shipping methods and so forth must also be multilingual. This is more work than I expected. I hope to be through by the end of next week.
